A Brief Encounter

Kim Poor talking about Diaphanism

Diaphanism

Kim met Salvador Dali in 1974 after being introduced by mutual friends in New York. Her work made an immediate impression on the surrealist master. Dali thought that to look at Kim's paintings was as if to 'look through coloured gauze'; this inspired him to describe Kim's work as diaphanous and to coin the term 'Diaphanism' for her style.

'Diaphanism', as a new word to describe an art style originating with Kim Poor, is to be included in the third edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.
